Notice on Research Maintenance for Sponsored Projects Funding Program

Dear Colleagues,

To ensure that OVPR remains responsive to campus needs for bridging assistance, but also realistic about funding constraints, we propose a new program that would have an annual budget with funds awarded in a competitive process twice each year. Thus, OVPR will conduct a fall and spring competition, each capped at around 8 awards that require a 100% unit match. This level of funding represents the average cost of the program over the past three fiscal years. This approach would enable a comparative review, a recognition that OVPR in not capable of bridging all projects, however worthy, and that those proposals that do not receive OVPR awards may still be funded by other units. We would count cost sharing from the unit for up to six months prior to the award date to allow the unit to step in if there are off-cycle needs. We will continue to assess the campus-wide need for increased maintenance funding.
